There have been many outbreaks in the fast food industry for companies not following the correct food safe standard regulation. Not following food safe standards can really put your business at risk because you are putting the customer at risk. Having a business where you own a huge chain of restaurants can lead to bigger problems, because you aren’t just having a problem in one restaurant. It is most likely that it will be occurring in a series of your restaurants. Almost every common fast food chain has been under investigation for not following regulations such as Taco Bell, McDonalds, Chipotle, Subway, Wendy’s, etc. One of the most commonly known was Jack in the Box in 1993 for the occurring outbreak of E. coli O157: H7. Food safety should be the number one thing that you should know when running a business so you can prevent illnesses for the customers. The main things about food safety is know what internal temperatures you need to serve the food at. You never want to undercook your food at a restaurant because that is going to make your business have a risk of the customer getting a small illness or a deadly disease such as E. coli., or salmonella. This is not only putting the customer in danger, it is also putting your business in danger because if someone gets sick or dies then the legal obligation with be put on you resulting your business to be shut down or being sued for hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars in which some can’t afford to lose. Also there need to be high cleaning expectations. When working in the food business you need to make sure that you are not using the same equipment for different types of meats and vegetables because that how you cause cross contamination. This can come back at you because what if someone is allergic to a certain food and you cross contaminate it with another food source which can cause the customer to get an allergic reaction. Even if he is telling the truth there will still be consequences, because is not like you can just forget about all the lives that were taken from family’s because they didn’t cook their burgers to the correct temperatures. E. coli. survives at any temperatures below one hundred and fifty-five degrees and that’s how this altercation all started with Jack in the box. So if you cannot personally follow all the food safety regulations then try to hire people who can help out so you can be informed about these types of situations. This will be a major help to your business so you can prevent any altercations such as this one with Jack in the Box.
Jack in the Box was one of the first fast food chains that started a few months before McDonalds. It’s also one of the first to have such a huge case of E. coli found in the meat due to improper cooking temperatures till this date. After everything was settled in court Jack in the Box cleaned up their act by making sure all of their restaurants were following the correct food safety regulations to prevent any other outbreaks in their future to show the world that people can still eat there and be satisfied with the quality of their food
