Jack In Lord Of The Flies

Lord of the Flies is a fictional novel by William Golding about British school boys who get stranded on a tropical island after the bombing of World War II. These boys have to survive on the island with all of its dangers and beasts with no adults. Jack is a tall, thin, bony boy who leads all of the other choir boys. He has red hair, his face is crumpled and freckled and has light blue eyes. Jack is a cruel person as well as a cruel leader. The boys on the island become afraid of him and do whatever he says when he says it. Jack regresses from an English schoolboy into a savage leader who leads by fear. At first Jack is just another person on the island and has no more power than anyone else and is still a humane person. At the first assembly Ralph is telling the group how they need rules in order to survive on the island. Jack agrees with Ralph and tells the group that “We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything." (34) Jack wants rules and order at first, he knows what can happen when a society does not have rules. The boys do these orders for Jack because they fear him, they have seen what he did to Simon and how he will punish anyone who does not listen to his commands.
