Jack In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper

In William Golding`s “Lord of the Flies”, a group of boys crashed an airplane on a deserted island and attempted to make a government. While the boys were on the island, there were two leaders. Their names were Jack and Ralph. They both had different ways of governing the people. Jack was the superior leader, however the government that Ralph had was more democratic, nevertheless, the boys ended up choosing Jack to be their leader over Ralph. Jack was chosen over Ralph for his ability to tell people what they want to hear. Jack was able to have the boys follow him by making them fear him, providing them with pig meat, and offering them protection from the “beast”. Jack proved himself the more superior leader through his words and actions. Throughout the entire story, Jack was telling people what they wanted to hear. In the beginning when Ralph allowed Jack to be a hunter, he never realizes it would lead to his downfall. While Ralph was off worrying about his duties as chief, Jack was hunting and building trust with his hunters. These hunters would become some of his most trusted allies. When Jack came back with meat, he would celebrate, “Tonight we’re having a feast. We’ve killed a pig and we’ve got meat. You can come and eat with us if you like.”(140), which shows that he will offer food to anyone who desires, which shows selflessness.
