Jack And Ralph Leadership Essay

Leadership is vital in any organization, sport, or club. Not everyone is constructed to be a good leader and for some that can be a hard pill to swallow. Lord of the Flies is a book that exemplifies leadership. From the very beginning of the book to the end it seems as if there is an ongoing battle between Jack and Ralph, the two that are looked up to as the “leaders” are in constant disagreement. Through careful delegation, communication, and goal setting Ralph is depicted to be the most effective leader. One of the main differences in Jack and Ralph are simply that Ralph’s main goal and focus to get them off the island, in order to do that he creates rules for them to follow. He communicated with the people through his ever so famous speeches like “I have a Dream” he was able to thoroughly express what goals he had in mind although his life was taken so abruptly his legacy lives on with us forever. Although in the book we see the boys begin to stray away from Ralph and his plan and begin following Jack. More than likely they will forever remember Ralph as we do Martin Luther King. Ralph’s leadership role was effective when it came down to being rescued. Without Ralph many more of those boys wouldn’t have made it. However unlike Ralph, Martin Luther King Jr was able to be recognized for his good works through the honoring of the Nobel Peace Prize. It would be nice to have had a Chapter 13 in the book to see Ralph be recognized or something along those lines for being the reason the where rescued. Ralph may have lost hope throughout the book but just like Simon promised “You’ll get back to where you came
