"Wonder" Summer Reading Essay Part One-
Point of views of Jack and Auggie in "The War"
Jack
What Charlotte said about Julian was spreading a rumor about something that had never happened sounded shocking. And furthermore Julian was offending Mr. Tushman and Auggie by lying and incorrectly quoting his mom, "none of it would have happened in the first place if Tushman hadn't forced you to be friends with Auggie." (122) Julian said his mom thinks that Jack snapped under the pressure. Because of Julian's rumors, people divided themselves between Jack and Julian or stayed neutral. And so, "The War" had begun. After a few days into war, Jack felt sad to find out that he had only four people on his side. Julian had also lied by saying that Jack had hired a hitman to get revenge on him. This lie was so pathetic, that people got convinced Julian was lying about everything and left his side.

He had stated, "For a while, the "war" was all we talked about. February was when it was really at its worst. That's when practically nobody was talking to us, and Julian had started leaving notes in our lockers." He felt similar to Jack. He did not like the war either. But towards May, he too so started realizing that people were getting on his side because of Julian's pathetic lie. He had also stated, "People even joke around with me now sometimes. Like the other day I saw Maya writing a note to Ellie on a piece of Uglydoll stationery, and I don't know why, but I just kind of randomly said: "Did you know the guy who created the Uglydolls based them on me?" " This meant that people started accepting as he was and not making a big deal about his face. They were all starting to like him and treating him as a normal

In his book Lord of the Flies, William Golding introduces a conflict between Jack and Ralph when Jack prioritizes hunting above all else and Ralph focuses on everyone's survival needs. William Golding is clearly trying to establish the theme that a difference in priorities within a single group often creates an imbalance affecting all of one’s surroundings. Throughout the first few chapters, Jack Merridew is portrayed as a self-centered and fierce character, especially when the subject of hunting pigs comes into play. This creates a conflict with Ralph, the appointed leader whose focus is rescue and shelter.…

War is stressful, it is traumatic, but at the same time fun and a bonding experience. In the novel The Things They Carried, the writer tells us about the memories of camaraderie between a platoon of young soldiers. “Rat Kiley made up a rhyme that caught on, and we’d all be chanting it together: step out of line, hit a mine; follow the dink, you’re in the pink” (32). Something as catchy as a song is remembered forever. Though, the ugly side of any war can have its lasting effects.…
