John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. Although his name was John, he was often known as Jack or JFK. His parents were Joseph and Rose Kennedy. JFK had nine siblings and was the second oldest. He came from a well-known family and lived a privileged life. For 64 years, Washington had at least one Kennedy in public office. JFK was able to attend Catholic schools such as Canterberry and Choate. He attended college at Harvard University. Although Kennedy received a high quality education, he was a mediocre student. Eunice Kennedy founded the Special Olympics; Robert Kennedy became a U.S. Attorney General; and Ted Kennedy was one of the most powerful senators in American history. On September 12, 1953 Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier. John and Jackie had four children together. The names of their children are Caroline Kennedy, John F. Kennedy Jr., Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, and Arabella Kennedy. His paternal grandfather, P.J. Kennedy, was a wealthy banker and liquor trader. Kennedy’s maternal grandfather, John E. Fitzgerald, was a politician who served as congressman and the mayor of Boston. His father was also a successful banker. After World War I his father made a tremendous fortune on the stock market. Kennedy appointed his brother, Robert, as his campaign manager. In conclusion viewers saw his campaign as one of the most well organized, detailed, and most disciplined in the history of Massachusetts. The personality of Kennedy overwhelmed people and gained him the victorious win. He served 8 years as senate for Massachusetts. In 1960 Kennedy and his running mate, Lyndon B. Johnson, competed against Vice President Nixon for the presidency. People were attracted to Kennedy because he was calm and politics seemed to come naturally to him. On November 8, 1960 Kennedy defeated Nixon and became the 35th president of the United States of America. With exemption of President Theodore Roosevelt, Kennedy was the youngest man to become president. He was also the first Catholic president and the first one to be born in the 20th century. While Kennedy was president his main focus was on foreign affairs. During this time the Peace Corps was created. The Alliance for Progress was created to help greater economic ties with Latin America. One of Kennedy’s greatest accomplishments was compromising the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. This helped ease Cold War tensions. Kennedy also played a role in civil rights. He ordered that James Meredith, the first black student to enroll at the University of
