Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization that offers behavioral health and social services to children, families, and adults. JFCS saw its inception in 1935 when a group of Jewish women in Phoenix ventured to create a social service agency to aid those in need. This group of women pledged to share what few they possessed to help others endure the great depression. Their mission changed the face of child welfare in Arizona and laid the groundwork for Jewish Family & Children’s Service. These services plans are created at the time of intake to help client set up personal goals and objectives that will help them in their recovery. A behavioral health assessment is performed following the elements delineated by the MMIC provider manual, the psychiatric symptoms reported by the client are measured using diagnostic systems and rating scales. The clients service plan goals and objectives are set up using the results obtained from the diagnostic systems, and rating scales. This system helps both clients and providers monitor a client’s progress throughout the course of their treatment. JFCS provides evidenced based treatment as required by the guidelines and protocols set up by the Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA). The RBHA has adopted evidence based guidelines set up by the National Guidelines Clearinghouse (NGC). The NGC defines its clinical practices based on the definition provided by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the IOM states that clinical practice guidelines are statements that contain recommendations to enhance patient care that are composed by a systematic review of evidence and an assessment of the benefits and harm of alternative care options. Despite me being employed at JFCS for the past two years my professional perceptions have been changing as I go through the Masters in Social Work program. My overall impressions are difficult to assess due to the continuous changes being implemented and rolled back. The relevance of the services we provide can be viewed as relevant due to our relative location to other clinics and the ever-growing list of programs and services being incorporating to our MRZ medical center. JFCS strives to provide a high level of services but due to the fields demands maintaining a consistent level of care is difficult when employee turnover is
