Introduction- I am a health and safety officer in J&S Feeds Ltd. I am expected to advise Cathal on what he must do in order to seek compensation and indicate what his expectations may be after the loss of his index and forefinger at work. I must explore the possible issues that might arise in Cathals potential claim.
I would advise Cathal to make a claim through the injuries board website which is injuriesboard.ie. You will not need to use the services of a solicitor which means that you will not have legal fees to pay. Injuriesboard.ie is the Government body which makes personal injury awards. As stated on the injuries board for thumb and finger injuries for the Loss of the ring, index or middle finger(s) the compensation being payed out is anything from €28,800 to €69,300.

The book of quantum (quantum meaning amount) is a guide to what a person may expect in compensation if they have been injured due to the fault of another person.
The guide has been graded to show the severity of the injury that has happened, it is shown that even within these grades, the real degree of severity can differ significantly and the same injury can have dissimilar consequences for different people. The majority of cases fall within the ranges shown but these are neither lowest nor maximum figures for the category of injury involved as each case will be dealt with differently due to individual facts. PIAB (Personal injuries assessment board) make an assessment which will be reflecting of how an injury has affected the person claiming in a personal way.

I would advise Cathal to look at this book as it states under the section Thumb and Fingers page 13 Soft Tissue Like other sprains, hand sprains are sometimes classified in grades . A person who has Serious and permanent finger conditions may receive from €17,900 to

The playground had one item that I liked the most which was a thing that you would hold onto then someone would push you across ten feet while your feet were hanging down. Due to inertia, I was flung off of the handle over the rail, then did some crazy acrobatics in the air, Finally I landed right on top of my left wrist.…
