J.H informal objective observation took place on Wednesday October 5, 2016 at 12:10pm. The observation ended at 12:40 pm for duration of 30 minutes. J.H is a five-year-old male in an ICT classroom. The class has 16 students and two teachers. The classroom tone was quiet and calm. The lights were turned off, windows were open and sunlight shined throughout the classroom. At the time of the observation, the special education teacher, Ms. H, was leaving because she was in the process of recovering from surgery. The general education teacher, Mrs. W, lead the class from the recess yard to the classroom. When the students enter the classroom from recess, there is a routine the students follow. The student put their water bottles and lunch boxes away on the shelves and put their head down on the table. The teacher calls them table-by-table to go drink water. When J.H entered the classroom, he hugged Ms. H and put his lunch box away while making dinosaur’s sounds. J.H kept his water bottle with him and drank his water at the table. At this point, every student has their head down on the …show more content…
The transition period from recess to a quiet environment was a challenge for J.H to accomplish. J.H continued to use his outdoor voice in the classroom. While the class sat in quiet, J.H seek for attention in other student. He constantly tried to talk to them or make them laugh. In my perspective, I noticed that J.H has a difficult time staying still in his chair. He moved around, switched seats, went back to his original seat and turned around in his chair. J.H was reminded more times than the other students about the classroom rules. At one point the teacher gave J.H a look and he automatically corrected his behavior. At the same time, J.H has spontaneous reactions such as random singing and yelling out sounds. As a result I am not sure if J.H is aware of his behavior or how he is interrupting the

During this phase in my PLE I really thought the teacher focused on the InTASC #3 which is learner environment. I say this because the first thing she did was put the students into a group and then gave them a story to read, and after they read the story they had to collaborate with each of their group members to come up with a question. Then they have to share this with the class so everyone can learn from the question they asked. Once they are done with the questions they are supposed to come up with their own story, this ties in the critical thinking aspect of learning along with more collaboration with the group. After all the groups have worked on their books they are going to take turns going around and each group will read their…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…
