Oscar Wilde once said, "Life imitates art far more than art imitates life." His musing crossed my mind when I read the first book in J. E. Plemons Last Light Falling series, The Covenant. Since I read the Covenant I’ve watched news story after news story unfold on the TV: violence, mass killings, hateful words spewing out of people’s mouths, people believing they are superior for one reason or another over others, no respect for humanity and life, and I’ll admit I am unnerved by what I see happening, especially in the U.S. Just this week in my brother’s community a fireman was deliberately run over and killed while he was collecting money as part of his departments annual “fill the boot” campaign for Muscular Dystrophy. I see all this and more around me and think, yes, the …show more content…
What do you do when the world around you is crumbling and all you have left is faith? Is faith enough? Is it strong enough? Do you have enough faith? Does the world have enough faith? Can faith truthfully see us through the storms in our life, even the categorically destructive, and life changing ones and assure us somehow we will be okay? These are all questions the reader finds themselves asking as they read the book, and in countless ways it’s why Into The Darkness is a page turner, we have a society of people who need to see that faith will prevail.
As I eagerly dove into the second book in the series upon seeing it was available, I knew often a 2nd book doesn’t deliver the punch and wow factor that drew readers into the first book. I was so pleased to see Plemons has broken that cycle. The only disappointment you will feel is that you have to wait until book 3 to get the rest of the story! Another great book from a talented author who deserves to be at the top of the best sellers list! My hats off to J.E.

Throughout the entirety of humanity, faith plays a vital role in determining one’s identity and character. This is portrayed especially well throughout the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, wherein Elie is constantly conflicted with the idea of a benevolent god. Within the memoir, faith is a consistent and recurring theme which drives the life and characterization of the author throughout the unbelievably inhumane events which are the Holocaust. These incredibly horrid incidences deeply change Elie, forcing him to question his own faith and well-being.
