J Alfred Prufrock Tone

In the poem of the “LoveSong of J.Alfred Prufrock,” T.S. Eliot uses a depressing and regretful tone to express a meaning; Don’t take life for granted and that life goes by faster than you expect. You shouldn’t mess around and wait. The earlier you begin your life, the easier it will be. Do not waste time because it’ll zoom right past you! Be aware of your age, or you’ll be regretting it later in life. J. Alfred Prufrock is getting older by the minute. He isn’t as young as he wished. “With a bald spot in the middle of my hair - (They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”) (Line 40) I think the author used this sentence to prove that he is aging and that it is too late for him to restart his life. The “bald spot” definitely proves that he is getting old. Not only is J.Alfred Prufrock noticing that he is getting old, but other people are also noticing it. When your hair is getting thinner, it usually means that you’re getting sick. And when your hair is getting thin, your hair is falling out. I think when J. Alfred Prufrock was younger, he wasn’t really serious. He thought of life as a game. “In the room the women come and go,” (Line 13). “And time yet for a hundred indecisions, And for a hundred visions and revisions,” (Line 32). Since he didn’t make a lot of decisions, he is stuck in one place and will never move forward or backward. He had a lot of plans and visions about his future, but he never accomplished them. He never met his goals and he probably will never meet them. If he doesn’t take action, he will forever be stuck in place. He has revisions about his decisions, so he wants to redo some of his actions. He knew that he made the wrong decisions and had better visions of his mistakes. “That is not what I meant at all.
