When the world began, three gods appeared, They were know as the Spirit Master of the Center of Heaven, The August Wondrously Producing Spirit, and the Divine Wondrously Producing Ancestor. When the earth came into being the land floated on the water. Out of the land plants burst through the ground. From these plants two more gods were formed. The Gods then explained that the cause of their failure was because the female had spoken first when they met behind the pillar. Izanagi and Izanami then returned with their newfound knowledge to the island and met behind the pillar again. This time when they met, Izanagi spoke first. He said, "What a good looking woman," and Izanami then said "What a good looking man". They mated once again and were more successful this time. They gave birth to fourteen islands, eight large and four small islands. After that they gave birth to a number of different Gods to inhabit those new islands, including a sea God, a God of the sea-straits, and the God of the lands. Last, Izanami gave birth a fire God, and her burn wounds were so severe that she died.
Izanagi was greatly saddened over Izanami’s death, and another God was born from his tears. Distraught after having to bury his wife, he became enraged and used his katana to behead the God of fire, who had killed Izanami involuntarily during birth by burning her. The blood on the sword formed four more Gods. The God of rocks, two more Gods of fire, and one God of water, they represent the things needed to create a sword.
