Houston Community College’s police force is changing how they operate. By the end of this semester, officers will be rotating from campus to campus and working in overlapping shifts. Today, the HCC police force is broken up into five commands: Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, and Coleman and Southeast under the same command. Officers are assigned to a single commands such as the group that covers the Southeast campus off I-45, Fraga and Coleman. “They operate inside whatever that geography is,” noted HCC Police Chief Greg Cunningham, “very rarely do we take you out of Southeast and move you to Southwest...migrating people across these colleges is not real easy to do.”…
A big deficiency on the emergency plan was it was not up to date, by any means. It had the wrong name for the police chief, did not include threat assessment teams, and the police were placed low in the ‘decision making hierarchy’ (Schaenman, 2009). The police agencies and security officials of the university did not believe that a lockdown of the university was even possible because of its size. There were no cameras in dormitory areas, leaving the identity of Cho unknown until found at the scene. The VTPD and BPD were trained and practiced active shooter scenarios.…
Recent reports have elevated the level of concern in the nation of Redland. Human Rights organizations are reporting the use of child soldiers and systemic rape as a weapon of war by the Unified Pineland Movement (UPM). These atrocities violate agreements of the Geneva Convention. This will not be tolerated by any of members of this negotiation. It is necessary that a mandate be decided upon soon.…
Stanton will be remembered as one of those students who is a standout in academics, athletics, friendship, and leadership. The dean had the following items on his agenda; the $10,000 allocation to the Student Government Association, approval of the Lambda Chi Alpha charter and a 14-page report covering student organization activities on campus. " The Heartland Beat" student newspaper said in an editorial "It's common on any given afternoon to see students lying asleep in the union."…
Introduction Secrecy is a common factor in the government, they will always hide something from society. It could be to protect us or just to avoid something even bigger. A police officer role is to “serve and protect the community” by enforcing the law in a safe way to those that break it. Every citizen have the right to be treated fairly in this country. Police officers are supposed to help the community follow the law, by making sure that everything is in order and no one is acting illegal.…
There are many differences between security and school resource officers. They do not have the same level of training and are not prepared in the same way as school resource officers (Theriot and Cuellar, 2016). According to Theriot and Cuellar (2016), official school resource officers have more training and are expected to focus on more than just general law enforcement activities, in contrast to many of the general security guards found within schools. Some of the training that school resource officers get include topics such as working with juveniles, being a positive role model, adolescent development, investigative skills in child abuse, public speaking, instructional techniques, classroom management, counseling skills, and emergency management (Anfara,…
Therefore, the conflict arises between citizens calling for safety and law enforcement providing this safety through tactics and surveillance deemed more aggressive and tactical. Law enforcement agencies have been tasked to not only meet the safety needs of the community through combating everyday crime and law breaking but also to be on the front lines of defense against terrorism, whether homegrown or…
Today police are essentially at the center of Homeland Security. They try to prevent crime, respond when crime does occur, and make criminal cases against suspected offenders. For the most part, the rest of the criminal justice system depends on the police (Cordner., & W, G. (2013). When the Boston Marathon…
Police can and should be involved in sexual assault cases, but only with the victim’s consent. Even if the victim did choose to get the police involved in his or her case, would the police be able to solve it? Would the attacker be convicted? Research shows that less than three percent of rapists are actually convicted. Attorney Brandt-Young says “the accused student deserves a timely resolution, and these police investigations can literally go on for months or even years.”…
The career center in Cerritos College can be one of the best resources we have to help students achieve success due to all the small sub-services. The career center has the job fair, interview skills, resume critique, family workshops, depression workshops, and other workshops that would help in advancing in our career. These workshops are vital for students to attend since they offer practice and experience on getting a job in the field you want and also help by providing more ways to pay for tuition. An example is the scholarship workshop that shows you what scholarship we can apply to help us get more money for our education. With this many types of services the Career center helps greatly with both getting hired after college and making…
In the Mother Jones website, the journalist decided to put about thirteen graphic videos of police brutality. “Below are 13 videos of fatal police encounters recorded between March 16, 2014, and April 4, 2015. A majority of the suspects were unarmed” (Vicens). The videos would make anyone cringe about the police force that is being overused in the United States. The worst thing is about the effects that is changing America and dividing us.…
The Campus Security Policy Statement says “The University relies on the Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments for emergency response and other assistance.” Response times for the Fort Worth Police Department has increased throughout the city to eighteen minutes for priority 2 calls, which is defined…
What is more important: stopping school shootings or worrying about an invasion of privacy of students? Ever since 9/11 ,security around the country has increased. Airports have scanners and more security guards. More violence has occurred in towns.…
I would make a great addition to the NTHS, National Technical Honor Society, because I am a reliable and devoted student who focuses deeply on my education, along with helping others. By helping the warren community while representing CPC, Career Preparation Center, this offers an opportunity for me to participate on selfless activities, while working together with my peers. I believe by joining the NTHS, I am opening myself to more grateful chapters in my life because I stay proactive to any task I am given. I especially enjoy working in a society that applies a strong leadership and vision to strengthen the community on a global scale.…
Police officers assigned to schools are called SROs, School Resource Officers. The 2013 Congressional Research Service report says SROs enforce laws on campus and act as a “problem-solver and liaison” to prevent local crime and teach students to avoid becoming crime victims (Botelho and Ellis ). Recently there has been controversy over whether it is appropriate for SROs to be in the classroom setting. SROs are needed in schools to protect students and make schools a safe place.…
