I accompanied him to each of his appointments, and even once got the spectacular experience of shadowing the radiation therapists! Shortly after this experience, I began volunteering at the Community South Cancer Center, where I escort patients, prepare beverages, handle paperwork, and do other various tasks as specified by the staff or requested by the patients.
After completing my education, I plan to serve pediatric oncology patients in a low-income area. I believe that proper medical care is a human right, not a privilege, and regardless of ability to pay, a patient should be treated just the same. I want to show my future patients the same consideration and compassion that my father’s doctors, nurses, and therapists showed him as he battled cancer.
In conclusion, a scholarship would put less financial stress on my family. It would allow me to start saving money for when I transfer to a four year college or university, as well as getting a head start with all of the costs getting into medical school involves. While I will not let finances stand in the way of achieving my goals, a scholarship would help me get there without as many bumps in the
