If IUS plans to keep competing with these bigger schools, it needs to bring in more staff and offer more study programs. Along with that, IUS should improve the opportunities it currently offers. Currently only 62% of freshmen go on to become sophomores. To increase this number one of the thing the school can do is expand the career development center. Other schools offer more scholarships. This is due to them having bigger sports programs. IUS should start to offer more scholarships. Not just for athletes but for everyone. IUS cannot compete with neighboring UofL when it comes to sports because they are a lot bigger and are in a more competitive conference. Since they cannot compete in sports with UofL, IUS should focus on the things it can compete with. If IUS offered more studying programs, that could possibly lead to some students staying. Just this semester the school of business will be adding three new members to its staff to accommodate for new classes. The university just recently added a new concentration to the business school. If IUS could start adding more concentrations to its other schools, they could start to retain more students. IUS has also just opened a new winter session. This is a great step in the right direction. With a new winter session, they will only set themselves apart from its competitors even more. Just this week IUS made a transfer agreement with Jefferson Community and Technical College to make it easier for JCTC’s students to transfer to IUS. With this agreement JCTC students will be able to transfer to IUS seamlessly to pursue their bachelor degree. Another great move in the right direction.
