The world is not the same as it once was fifty years ago; in fact it’s not close to the same as it was even twenty years ago! Technology has grown to the extent that no matter where you go, you have it with you. Everyone has an extraordinary amount of information at their fingertips with smartphones, laptops and tablets at their disposal. This constant exposure to information and media all day long affects how the human brain functions. Whether it is a positive or negative change, we are yet to see. The reliance on technology and media may have created an addiction in today’s modern society; however this is not entirely a bad thing. While many fear that the change to the minds of the new generation to rely on technology to communicate will be detrimental, that may not be the case. Children nowadays are more dependent on technology than the generation before, but why is that a bad thing? That is just human evolution: to improve upon and use new ways to do things. You don’t hear anyone complaining about using cars to drive great distances to drive great distances quickly and comfortably instead of using a horse and buggy to go a fraction of the distance much slower and in much worse conditions. No one looks back fondly upon the times of rudimentary technology and wishes we would use those outdated forms of travel, so why is the advancement of communication to more modern versions a bad influence on young minds? The simple answer is that it isn’t. There are pluses and minuses to everything, but social media is necessary to help advance humanity to the next step of
