Stains are a nightmare for individuals to remove and detergent alone does not always work. With that in mind, a product that helps fight stains by boosting detergents is desired if advertised properly. When watching advertisements, many viewers do not put much thought into what they feel or believe about the product. However, the creators of the advertisement know exactly what to do in order to establish trust, target the specific audience, or show logistics of the product. In OxiClean’s “It’s Amazing Classic Commercial,” Billy Mays successfully gains adult’s trust by showing the product in action, evokes a clean feeling by using neutral colors in a vacant environment, and shows the science of their product by comparing it to others, proposing that their product effortlessly makes tough stains disappear. A vacant kitchen with neutral wall colors and a vacant setting creates pathos by giving potential buyers a clean feeling and allowing them to connect those feelings with the stain fighting powers of OxiClean. Anything can cause emotions, and in commercials creators come up with specific ways to obtain feelings from potential buyers that will benefit the product. In OxiClean’s “It’s Amazing Classic Commercial,” viewers feel a sense of cleanliness because of the neutral colors. The white color on appliances and cabinets connects with the product because in the commercial many stains originally on white fabric disappear with the help of OxiClean. The kitchen, which is where the commercial is set, is not cluttered and almost vacant, only containing OxiClean containers and other cleaning supplies.
