From ancient times, practices that devalued women and put men on top have been in place and have transferred out to our society today, where women are valued more for their image than their intelligence. The countries of India and China have the practices of female infanticide, where it's actually the most popular. The documentary “It’s a Girl” first shows an Indian women stating “Women have the power to give life,” she explains, “and the power to take it away.” (It's a Girl) India and china have rooted in them the practice of infanticide. The film opens up with a woman telling her story about her births. She has been pregnant eight times, all of these eight times she gave birth to only girls, and eight times she had strangled and killed her daughters. She justifies her actions with the …show more content…
This custom, however, is without any logic. If so many girls are being killed off before reaching adulthood there will be no women left to birth boys. Women are the start of life, getting rid of them, on the long run, will also be getting rid of humanity. Being killed at a young age deprives girls from a chance to live but “...girls who survive infancy are often subject to neglect, and many grow up to face extreme violence and even death at the hands of their own husbands or other family members. The war against girls is rooted in centuries-old tradition and sustained by deeply ingrained cultural dynamics which, in combination with government policies, accelerate the elimination of girls.” (It’s a Girl) Even making past infancy, the struggle for women in this part of the world does not stop. They are not valued in their society and go through every struggle to maintain themselves safe and alive. Women, from very old traditions and cultures have been seen as less and unimportant. It not only has harmed how they view themselves but also how society has viewed them for

Women have always been considered inferior to their male counterparts. Rather it was religious, political, or social women were always looked at as property and under the control of their fathers, brothers or husbands. For women, wifehood and motherhood was their main profession, that is until the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century when women began fighting for the reevaluation of traditional views on their roles in society. It breaks my heart, but women are still disrespected and treated like they're just objects for men's use only. That is the biggest, pigheaded, bald-faced, malicious, pernicious lie, I have ever heard in my life. Women are not objects for men to enjoy, they are like flowers, some, can be stereotypical and want to be nurtured, while others are independent and don't want any help in growing and being successful. “You are truly Royal spirit daughters of almighty God you are princesses, destined to be queens.” (Dieter F. Uchtdorf) meaning that all women can be whoever they want, the choice is theirs, not societies.…

Historically, women have had a disadvantage compared to their male peers. Until the 1920s, women did not wear pants, nor could they vote. Society has come far since then, women can now practically do anything a man can (vote, own land, join the army, make decisions), however, they are still believed to be inferior. To state this in similar terms, look at sports. Women don’t play football, and those sport that have female leagues, do not get close to the amount of attention as similar male sports do (Basketball, Softball).…
