It helped me forget about all the things that were happening in my life at that moment. This was the first time I ever went golfing and I fell in love with it. This is what has made me who I am today.
In second grade i was diagnosed with a blood disorder called ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura). Before I was diagnosed i used to be very involved in normal sports that kids my age were playing such as football and soccer, but ITP made it so I could not participate in these activities so that's when I turned to golf. When I was a child, my cousins and I would go to a place called Valley Beach. This place was an enormous concrete pool in the middle of a valley. Every summer day my cousins and I would go and do activities, such as swimming and kickball. When I think back on these times, I remember all the good times we had playing kickball and beating any other team that challenged us. Reminiscing on just one specific time always seems to bring me back to other…

I remember walking into the house my parents has recently bought and thinking I’m finally home. To my surprise my mom had made me Enchiladas Suizas. We prayed just as I was used to and we all thanked God for all the blessings in our lives. After a long time I finally had this sense of completion because the piece in my life that was missing to be completely happy was to be able to physically be with my parents. Another memory that I remember is when I was voted for captain on the Varsity team Lady Condors.…

On Veterans Day 2014, I asked my dad if we could play a round of golf. Since I was a baseball fanatic at the timen, my dad was surprised by my question, but nevertheless he set up a round of golf for us. When I hit a ball off the first tee, I knew I had found a new, strong passion. Although my swing was horrible, I was determined to practice golf everyday to become better. I told my mom about my exhilarating experience on the golf course later that night, and I slowly began to realize that I loved golf more than baseball for its independent aspects, unique serenity, exquisite views, and diverse challenges.…

The day started like any other, but the same could not be said for how it ended. I arrived at the town golf course, Longshore, about 30 minutes before my tee time. There was slight cloud coverage, minimal wind, and a comfortable temperature. Glints of sun through the clouds periodically illuminated blades of grass, almost signaling for the ball to be hit there. The bentgrass took a deep, rich shade of green from the recent douses of rain.…

The summer before middle school, a weird transitional time for most. This was when I went backpacking for the first time. My dad and I went to Manistee National Forest, which you can locate on your hand map a few centimeters lower than Lake Ann and covers a little more than a thumbs worth of space. I step out of my dad’s truck and everything felt right. The smell of damp earth and decaying leaves hits my nose, travels to my mouth, and creates a smile.…

I picked it up and was skeptical about the sport because it seemed as if it was impossible to catch or pass a ball. I played for a Wheeler high school club team for my first time ever, I can say they were not a good team. The coach was harsh and tough on the beginners like myself and he made me want to quit playing. Mid way through the season he put me in the game and I had got the ball for the first time ever, I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself. I took the ball down the field and I shot, it felt as if time froze for me.…

Entering the double-doors to start my 11th grade year evoked different emotions than had previous first days of school. The commencement of my freshman and sophomore years were nerve wracking, of course, yet an underlying excitement to see friendly faces had maintained my spirits. However, as a junior, my classmates were now off in their AP and honors classrooms, and I, in a state of ambivalence, was embarking on a new challenge: the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme. My integration into this community, honestly, took a prolonged amount of time.…
