Rich in history, Italy has seen it all. It is home to one of the oldest cities in the world, Rome, and has had many inventions, discoveries, and historic events come from it. However, great prosperity comes with many conflicts within the country and others around it. Italy has been involved in many wars ranging from The Punic Wars, The Crusades, and the Italian Wars of the Renaissance to being part of the Italian campaign in the French Revolution, and taking part in the conquests of Africa. None of these wars, however, could prepare Italy for what it would encounter in World War 1.

It was later involved in World War 2, The Iraq War, The Afghanistan War, and other smaller wars. Italy’s government is a democracy, and it has separate city-state type areas inside of it that are not technically considered a part of Italy, like the Vatican city (home of the head of the Roman Catholic church and the Pope) and the Republic of San Marino. Many visit the Vatican as a pilgrimage to see the head of the Roman Catholic church, since Italy’s main religion is Roman Catholic. Italy is home to the city of Milan, which is known world-wide for its high fashion, and vivid scenery. Many tourist travel to Italy every year to see historic sites such as the Roman Colosseum in Rome, The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa, The sinking city of Venice, the hometown of Michelangelo and where the world-famous Medici family lived in Florence, and the statues of victims of the Mount Vesuvius volcanic eruption in Pompeii. Italy also has the most volcanoes out of any country in Europe. Many tourist go skiing in the Alps, which is one of the highest and longest mountain ranges in Europe that sits upon the northern border of Italy. Naples is another well-known city that many couples go to as a romantic getaway. Tuscany, another popular city, is known for its hilly scenery and vast vineyards where one of Italy’s more popular export ,wine, is made from another one of their major exports, grapes. Italy is well known for its amazing gelato, and is more commonly known for creating our favorite, pizza. Today, many “car guys” thank Italy for their invention of cars like the Fiat, the Lamborghini, the Ferrari, and the Maserati. Soccer is another thing that is very prominent in Italy. Their national team has one the world cup four times, making it one of the best in the world. Italy has all these great things, but there government has drastically declined. They are having governmental issue and because of that, Italy’s unemployment rate has
