Since the beginning of time and the early days of civilization for as long as we can go back into time there has always been higher powers that exert themselves with control over others. This supremacy over others constitutes to slavery and racism not only in our nation but the world as a whole from sea to sea throughout history. Slavery and racism has played a drastic part of our history as this practice preaches total control over other beings while being discriminatory of another race. He states that many Italian immigrants faced hardships when it came to their religion upon coming to the Americas. Upon reading his article his points remind of what goes on in today 's world with Muslims and how they are frowned upon because of conflicting interests that occur across the world. In 1785 the catholic following proposed to build St. Peter 's church in the heart of Manhattan. The proposal would go south as the city higher ups and officials refused to allow the building of the church to happen and had them relocate outside of the city. The city 's leaders feared that the pope and his relations with foreign influence would cause chaos within the heart of the city. In late December of 1806 protesters gathered around the St. Peter 's Church because of “mysterious ceremonies” that were happening within the church. These mysterious ceremonies that were happening inside the church were the celebration of Christmas for the Italian’s that are catholic. As a result of the protest that occurred in 1806 at the St. Peter’s church dozens of Italian’s were injured because of a riot that insinuated after the celebration of Christmas that night. Yet another incident of Anti- Italianism had occurred in New Orleans in 1891. In October, just before the New Year started Police Chief David Hennessy was shot on his way home from the Police station. David Hennessy had rarely left the station himself however that night he did as he was on his own; Hennessy was shot four times in the chest liver and leg. As help came to his aid he repeatedly said that “Dagoes” did it. When he said “Dagoes”, he was referring to the Italian day workers that occupied the docks in New Orleans as well as the fruit markets. Police Chief David Hennessy would die the next morning in Charity Hospital with his mother and close relatives alongside him. Hennessy was never able to identify who his killers were but assumed they were Italians because of a feud in a case that was going on between the markets in New Orleans that were heavily Italian
