It’s that time of year again: the holidays. Every year you visit family and friends from all over and you have to answer the same question over and over again: “When are you finally going to settle down and meet a man/woman?” You’ve had a few relationships here and there but they all ended because of various reasons that no one will ever understand. Ultimately, you just knew that it wasn’t the right person. Someday there will be the perfect person waiting for you, but for right now, there isn’t the “one.” Most people say that if you follow your hear than love will be waiting, but that has yet to happen. However, should you just rely on your heart when making the most important decision: figuring out who you want to spend the rest of your life with? The answer is no. Using your head should at least play a role in making decisions about your love life because it may bring insight and helpful information that your heart does not have. Tashiro believes that the best time to use your head is in between relationships because “you can reflect upon what’s worked or what hasn 't worked in previous relationships” (Hamilton, 2015). This allows you to focus on figuring out goals or strategies for future relationships so that the same mistakes are not made over again. This is compared to a summer fling where the intimacy and passion are high, but the commitment is low because after summer the fling will end. Companionate love is described as “intimacy and commitment combining to form love for a close companion.” This type of love is related to long lasting friendships where closeness and communication are all present, but there is a lack of passion. Fatuous love is when passion and commitment is present but there is an absence of intimacy. This often occurs when two marry spontaneously and quickly based solely on the overwhelming passion. These people don’t necessarily know each other, but because the passion is so high they marry. Lastly, “when intimacy, passion, and commitment are all present to a substantial degree, people experience ‘complete,’ or consummate, love.” This is love that many seek and should seek out, but it is hard to maintain overtime (Miller, 2015, p.
