It happened to me

Imagine one morning you wake up unable to move.
Your arms and legs heavy as if buried in concrete with only your head sticking out
Still able to breathe, think, feel the inside of your body, your mind stuck in a groove
Disbelief changes places with the realisation that something is seriously wrong
Your tears escape from the tomb traveling until they meet your pillow leaving you transmove
That happened to me

Imagine being a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a manager, an athlete living in glee
In the prime of your life as fit as you can be
No one knows what is wrong leaving you behind in an ever increasing darkness
While the light slowly diminishes they abandon you like a sinking ship, heartless
That happened to me

Imagine weeks later waking up one morning unable to move
The concrete has returned, covering your body once again leaving your head uncovered
Unable to understand what people say you seem to have skipped into another groove
The river of energy held captive behind an invisible dam needs once again to be discovered
That happened to me

Imagine relapse after relapse turns your life upside down
Your husband decides he wants out escaping the meltdown
That happened to me

Imagine without warning being transported between these two modes
You turn from being healthy and strong into disabled in seconds between episodes
You, your family, friends, colleagues, doctors don’t understand relationships erode
That happened to me

Imagine a stranger hears about your situation and freely offers his support
From nowhere as in a fairy tale the knight appears on his white horse piercing your darkness
With him, he brings light and creates space in his life to take you in regardless
The moment your eyes meet you know you have sailed into a sheltering port
That happened to me

Imagine lying in a bed in a sunny room beneath a window for 6 years
The stranger fulfilling the roles as your full-time carer, friend, lover and

A profoundly altered planet is what our commerce minded government is creating, freaks storms like Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane El Niño tearing through our cities. By cutting corners on large scale dams that hold massive amounts of water, the government can have an impact on the fate of our planet. Everyday, poorly built construction projects like Hoover Dam and the Panama Canal wager millions of people’s lives, or most importantly, trillions of government assets. The Buckeye Lake Dam, located in Licking County, Ohio may seem like a peaceful place to enjoy on a weekend when it is surprisingly one of the most reckless building projects since the Leaning Tower of Pisa.…

Before the glittering lights of Las Vegas, there was a desolate wasteland of barren desert and flash floods that now houses the largest man-made lake in the United States as well as the 18th largest dam in the entire world. Back then, the Hoover Dam was the largest structure of its time, standing seven-hundred and twenty-six feet tall with, “Enough concrete to build a road from New York to San Francisco,” (National Park Service 1). Due to its unprecedented size and the minute section of time spent to build it, this structure claimed numerous lives; despite that, this project offered 21,000 people the chance to avoid unemployment during the Great Depression. The Hoover Dam offered irrigation, some power to surrounding states, jobs for the unemployed,…

I could still physically move but couldn't physically speak. I was so frightened, my first thought was to get to my teacher at the front classroom door. Holding my jaw to try to stop the chaotic movement of my teeth, I took about four steps to get to the door, before falling backwards, unconsciously, with my eyes rolling in the back of my head. It was so…
