Personal Narrative: The Day I Would Be Called To Arms

It all started as a typically cool mid-winter day. *******Insert more details here about this day – touch, taste, smell, hearing, sight******* Little did I know that by the end of this day, my life would be drastically changed forever. This was going to be the day I would be Called to Arms. I enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard in October of ’97 as a Fire Support Specialist. This job mostly entailed being on the front lines with the Infantry, calling in fire support and suppression of enemies that we were able to get eyes on; however, we focused much of our training on riot control and other issues that may arise within the State of Florida. I hadn’t given an ounce of thought to actually being called up for active duty. My unit, …show more content…
Do you think that knowing I will be sent to battle, that I will be able to effectively complete my work tasks?” Needless to say, I informed the Project Manager and Human Resources post-haste, clocked out, and rushed home to attempt conveyance of this harsh reality upon my spouse. Heart-broken regarding the worst-case scenario playing out in both of our minds, we began to communicate this to our family and friends oblivious to the fact we still have a little girl with a significant day this very …show more content…
I had come here one weekend every month to train on various aspects of my military profession. This time, there would be no training. There would be no camaraderie. This was the beginning of war. As we gather on the cold stone pad that was our armory floor, each of us ten men laid out all of our gear systematically in order to go through and ensure nothing was missing. After several hours of seemingly endless paperwork, we were released to go home to get our finances in order and instructed to report again at 0800 Sunday

The familiar sound of wheezing fills my ears. Exactly then I know a letter will be sent to a praying family whose hopes will fade into merely a memory and in the morning we will be burying one of our men, who never will get to see his children grow up in a land free from the tyranny of Britain. Every night I went to sleep there was the fear that I might not be able to move in the morning or even wake up. While “the British were comfortably quartered” the Americans were struggling to get by (Roden 141). Recently “General Washington has had trouble keeping his army intact in Valley Forge” (Roden 141).…

As honors students, we thrive on achievements. Tangible achievements are what, for many of us, ensure that we have accomplished our goals. For this reason, when I learned about the “Honor Cadet of the Flight” award at Civil Air Patrol Encampment, I was determined to achieve it. I tried extremely hard and made sure that everything I did displayed nothing less than excellence throughout the week. Because I was so determined to achieve that award, the setback came across disconcerted me greatly.…

On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 men would forever alter the history of our nation. As the tragic and horrid events played out I watched in agony as our beloved world trade center collapsed, the Pentagon burned and an unexplained plane crash in Shanks Ville Pa, took the lives of the innocent passenger on board. Like many who woke up on that ordinary morning the tragic occurrences would scorn a horrid picture of death and agony. This event would further subject the nation's heart into a state of hopelessness and shock and as September 11, unfolded America would usher in an era known as Post 9-11 I enlisted in the US ARMY in June 2004 and even though America was on a path towards recovery the campaign in Iraq endured and the war continued.…

Back in the days of yore, when I still walked the soft warm grass of my homeland, back when the great ice storm was still fresh in the minds of men, I lived in a trailer in the country, between Cridersville and Wapakoneta. I had a lot of free time and not many friends to talk to, save for Lucas who lived all the way in Buckland. I spent the majority of my free time at my neighbor’s house. My neighbors were the most ignorant gun toting Americans I’ve ever known.…
