In the beginning of the story, the members of the Dashwood family were introduced. Firstly, the house owner Mr. Henry Dashwood had two wives. The first wife left him with a son named John and with his second wife, Mrs. Dashwood, they had three daughters named Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret. After Mr. Henry Dashwood’s death, his eldest child, John inherited the house. Then, Sir John Middleton invited Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters to live in his cottage. Elinor fell in love with the brother of John’s wife, Edward Ferrars but they are forced to part. After they moved in, Marianne fell in love with Willoughby but he went to London for work. In the end, Marianne realized the worth of Colonel Brandon and agreed to marry him, Edward revealed the truth to Elinor and proposed to her. Ferrars. To explain, near the ending, on page 443 it states that “Marianne could never love by halves; and her whole heart became, in time, as much devoted to her husband, as it had once been to Willoughby.” This shows that Marianne loved Colonel Brandon and enjoyed being with him like when she first met Willoughby. Also, in the end, a servant told Elinor that Lucy is married to Mr. Ferrars and Elinor was really sad. Later, Edward came to explain to her that Lucy fell in love with his brother Robert Ferrars and they married. Edward proposes to Elinor and they married. Marianne was described as impetuous and she acted solely on her instincts without caring the consequences. On the other hand, Elinor was a calm and collected girl and she knew what was best for the family. When Willoughby left Marianne, she was really depressed and everyone was worried about her. On the other hand, Elinor kept her emotions to herself so she would not worry anyone. Secondly, Marianne loved Willoughby at first sight and they shared many interests. However, they only knew each other for a short amount of time, but Marianne already made up her mind to marry Willoughby.
