The world we live in today is one to be disappointed about in the aspect of America’s law enforcement. Early law enforcement was introduced in the 1800’s in Great Britain. Originally established with the same traits as its military, their purpose was one of great value which involved serving and protecting the people at any cost with a civilized and humane approach. The war on drugs in the late 70’s was a huge influence in the decision to push for a more militarized law enforcement; and now we are where we are, America’s policing is structured in a way that was thought to be even more beneficial for the…

In the text book, one of the consequences of the law enforcement is the misperception results in an increased level of public support. I have observed residents who have a great sense of safety and rate their neighborhoods as a higher opinion of Police despite individual characteristics such as race and age. In today’s society, racial profiling has lead to law enforcement acting violently against African Americans in all areas of the United States. African Americans have been pulled over, questioned, searched, and even shot based on no reason other than the officer believing that “the suspect looked suspicious”. America would become a more respectable and civilized country if law enforcement would end the racial profiling of African Americans now rather than continuing practicing this racist gesture and causing America’s second Civil War. America’s law enforcement has given itself a bad image by its repeated unjustified killings and racial profiling of African Americans.…

Law enforcement as we know it today was created to “protect and serve” us American people, but in recent news with the constant use of excessive force and lethal tactics this can be brought into question. With the constant acts committed by the police that we see almost every day and the rallies and protests we see, it can be said that we are in the second civil rights movement. Unjust murders such as Eric Garner, Samuel Dubose, Sandra Bland, and Jeremy McDole, with police getting paid leave. Also with the luckier ones who survived like the family in Texas who was harassed at their own pool party, Huey P. Newton an older but not as famous event, and Rodney King one of the first and major acts of police brutality. Many factors can be contributed…

Although those groups may not receive equal benefits (yet), they still receive some benefits and allow society as a whole to benefit. This would indeed apply to the current situation between Law Enforcement and many average citizens. They rightfully wish to receive equal treatment. Yet, does this conflict between the people and the institution negatively impact the benefit Law Enforcement can have on society as a whole? My own personal observation has led me to believe that in order for Law Enforcement to protect citizens, as well as themselves, they require the cooperation and trust of the community.…

As we know everything is not written in black or white. We would like to think that our criminal justice system is perfect and that everything that our law enforcement officials do is strictly by the book. No matter what the interaction is or how often they occur, everyone builds a relationship with the people they encounter. When it comes to police officers and those who work in law enforcement this is especially true due to the fact that their entire jobs revolve around being involved with the public since it is their jobs to protect the citizens in their community. A statement that speaks to the extent of how far up and down the ranks of law enforcement their relationship with those that they serve goes is one that states “police/community relations is the job of every officer and not just the person conferred with that title”.
