Issues In The Criminal Justice System

Personally, I believe that justice is about retribution and equal treatment. While retribution seems like a strong word, realistically that is a large portion of what justice is. People who seek justice want the amount of hardships they faced to be equal to the hardships given to the one who caused it. The most obvious example of this is in the criminal justice system. When a crime is committed and a suspect is arrested, the suspect receives a sentence that is equal to the crime. This sentence is also fair and accepted by the victim. Justice also gives the victim a sense of comfort and satisfaction, knowing that the perpetrator is being punished for their actions. In my honest opinion, I think that the criminal justice system only provides certain aspects of justice to certain demographics. Many girls are sexually assaulted in college, and very few ever get justice for it. While many girls are silent about their encounters, the ones who do speak up, very rarely actually see justice all the way through. It is not always the criminal justice system who fails to provide justice. There are many cases where a sexual assault case does not even make it to a criminal justice setting because of the stigma surrounding rape and sexual assault. In today’s world, there have been many cases when girls are silenced by either their attacker, or a school official to keep it from going to the police and becoming public. The attacker or school official convince the victims that it will ruin their reputation when it is just saving theirs. I believe the criminal justice system needs to work harder to prevent this from happening, and encourage victims to seek justice regardless of society’s
