By defunding Planned Parenthood, we are removing imperative care to those who need it most; half of Planned Parenthood’s facilities are in rural and underserved communities (Planned Parenthood, 2017). Not only does Planned Parenthood offer imperative services, but they also pride themselves in delivering comprehensive sex education. Despite widespread public support, only twenty states mandate sex education and HIV education. Only nineteen states mandate the education about birth control, only nine states mandate inclusive instruction about sexual orientation, and only thirteen states mandate that instruction must be medically accurate (Guttmacher, 2015). Planned Parenthood works to increase access to medically accurate comprehensive sex education. This is just another reason we cannot defund Planned Parenthood. Protecting these facilities and organizations is the vital to continue to increase access to services and education. I urge everyone to call, write, or visit with their representatives and discusses the importance of these organizations and the effect it will have if they are defunded. According to a recent survey, done by the Congressional Management Foundation, reports that 87 percent of congressional aides claim a phone call could sway an undecided representative on an issue, and 94 percent report that an in-person meeting has some influence on lawmakers on an undecided issue (Aspen Institute, 2017).Without informing our representatives of what its constituents believe in, they cannot make decisions informed decisions and will not fight for policies that
