God is always at work in the lives of those He has called for a specific task. God prepares His servants for service as it is seen in the life of Moses and Joshua. Moses’s preparation began from the time he was born. Every event that took place in Moses’s life was orchestrated by God.
From the time Moses was drawn out of the river by Pharaoh’s daughter (Ex. 2:5-10), he was raised in the ways of the Egyptians. Moses was educated by the Egyptians and became renowned for his accomplishments and military prowess (Acts 7:22). However, Moses was envied by Ramses, and after it was discovered that Moses was a Hebrew and had murdered one of the Egyptian guards, he lost favor with the Pharaoh and feared for his life.

Regardless of how difficult people can be, one must practice self-control and temperament along with compassion, wisdom, love, understanding, and have an obedient heart that trusts God.
God was also in at work in Joshua’s life. Early in his life, Joshua was being prepped to be Moses successor. Joshua in Ex. 24:13 was called Moses’s minister or assistant. Every pastor needs an assistant. Joshua was one of twelve men sent out by Moses to spy out the Promised Land. Out of the twelve, only Joshua and Caleb gave a good report and showed great trust in God that He would deliver Israel from their enemies and protect them in the land.
A good leader trusts the God he serves, and Joshua loved God and was a faithful servant. God commissioned Joshua in the Book of Joshua 1:1-17 and the people confirmed God’s choice by agreeing to do all that he commanded them to do (vs. 16). Joshua became a great military leader prepared by God. Joshua is a model for leaders today to pattern themselves after so they too can be successful and effective
