According to a prolific rabbi and author, "None of us can truly be human in isolation" (Kushner). Isolation can lead to not being a person's true self. According to William Golding, Lord of the Flies and expert in the fields of psychiatry and psychology, isolation affects mental health.

In the book Lord of the Flies, Simon and Jack are both starting to have problems regarding mental health and isolation. There are many examples of isolation causing mental health problems. Studies have shown that "intimate partner aggression perpetration is associated with pandemic-related negative outcomes, such as social isolation" (Misgana). This is a very serious problem regarding relationships with other people. Most of the time, if someone is isolated from another person for long periods, they are bound to build up anger and frustration within each other. This causes a declining relationship with each other, which is very negative. Not being able to go out in the real world is also a big problem causing mental health problems. "The protection measures taken against COVID-19 are applied to control the pandemic like mass quarantine and isolation, and consequently, the social and economic fallout can precipitate mental health problems" (Misgana). Quarantine is a huge problem for people who need to stay healthy and thrive mentally. This impacted a lot of people by not letting them go outside and getting the activity they need, like sports. If someone plays sports, it will help them with their social skills because they have to communicate on the field with their teammates. It will also help in making friends because when someone plays a sport, they are likely to make friends. Another downside to being quarantined is not being able to see family members who do not live with you. Loneliness is a huge problem if someone is young and dependent on other people for happiness. This can mess with someone's head, sending them into depression sometimes. Overall, loneliness is just a horrible feeling to have in both young and old people. Covid-19 was one of the worst things to happen in the history of the world and affected an astronomical amount of people's mental health. "Next to climate change, depletion of natural resources, and wars, the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affects our mental health and is one of the greatest challenges of our time" (Justnya). Covid-19 was such a terrible event and had such an impact on many people's mental health. Covid-19 was so bad it is in the same discussion of wars and millions of people being killed. This shows the impact on people's mental health and sometimes irreversible damage to their mental state.
