Theme: Loneliness and Isolation
In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck there are numerous themes throughout the text. One theme that is highlighted several times within the characters is isolation and loneliness. Some people spend a lifetime being lonely, and some experience loneliness only once or twice in their lives. The characters that display loneliness and isolation are Crooks, Candy, and Curley’s wife. As a result of their loneliness and isolation, they are desperate for company. Sometimes, this can become dangerous for the characters mentioned.

Curley's Wife is a character that is very neglected. Her isolation leads to her death. Many of the workers on the ranch say that, "Well I think Curley's married . . . a tart" (Steinbeck 28). They call her a tart because she flirts with everybody but her husband. She is a temptress to the other men because she constantly tries to get their attention. She does this because Curley ignores her and isolates her. She also has no purpose on the ranch, and is treated as an object. She has no name and Curley mistreats her very often. She says, "Aint I got a right to talk to nobody?" (Steinbeck 87). She really doesn’t talk to anyone on the ranch, and no one cares about her. This is why she is isolated and
