Cultural Diversity In California

From the very beginning, California has been a place associated with uniqueness and great diversity. It has been said that within the confines of California can be found much of the best and worst of all forty-nine other states combined. Large scale migration has greatly contributed to the phenomenon, as has the diverse climate of the state. Consequently, it is safe to say that California has something to offer to every single person. What makes California so different from the rest of the states? California has always been romanticized, along with plenty of mystery, and it’s all due to its geographical isolation. For a long period of time, it was believed that California was an island. This misconception was partly due to a spanish tale that depicted California as an island. Another aspect that contributes the idea of isolation is the fact that in the early years of California it was quite hard to reach. It was quite difficult to get to by both sea and land, respectively, to adverse coastal headwinds and barren deserts, which unmotivated people from traveling to California. California is one of the most culturally diverse states, however, Los Angeles cultural influence is dominant. The mix of racial and ethnic groups is equally diverse. In southern California there is an abundance of people, money, stores, freeways, houses, along with violence and pollution.
