The legend says that, in order to protect Leto from the wrath of Hera, Zeus called on his brother Poseidon to create the island. Delos was also a center for Apollo worshipers, it was even considered a sanctuary. In 1873 BC, French archaeologists excavated Delos and found how truly religious the people on the island were.
