Two victims of these beheadings were American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff. These acts of barbarism cannot be tolerated. Decisive action must be taken against ISIS and everyone who associates with them. Continually coordinated airstrikes must continue until ISIS is completely eliminated. Coordinated airstrikes are the current measure of dealing with ISIS, but some believe that this is not enough or too much. Others believe that the best way to control the ISIS situation is containing ISIS with its borders to cease their expansion. Extremist in the United States believe the military should bomb all land controlled by ISIS and eliminate the problem that way. President Obama discussed his stance on the best way to deal with the ISIS rebels. President Obama recognizes ISIS as “a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” President Obama also received overwhelming bi-partisan approval on his four step plan to combat ISIS. Some members of congress even believe that more action is necessary than just “training the Syrian fighters.” President Obama’s stance for dealing with ISIS is the best option that the U.S. has. His plan is to “degrade, and ultimately destroy ISIL through comprehensive and sustained counterterrorism strategy.” The Presidents strategy consists of four steps for dealing with ISIS. The four steps outlined by President Obama are intended to protect both U.S. lives and the people of the Middle East from harm. The President’s plan is the best course of action for the United States. “First, we will conduct a systematic campaign of airstrikes against these terrorist. Working with the Iraqi government, we will expand our efforts beyond protecting our own people and humanitarian missions, so that we’re hitting ISIL targets as Iraqi forces go on the offensive.” This first stage of the plan is the most crucial in defeating ISIS.
