Isis An Act Of Genocide Essay

“ A genocide begins with the killing of one man - not for what he has done, but because of who he is” (Kofi Annan). Isis is determined to take control of the world, there main target being the western culture, including their civilization and religious beliefs. Depending on the extremity of the attacks and killings, they are either classified as a genocide if they are more extreme, or questioned if they are not as major. The more extreme attacks and killings, can be proved in many ways as an act of genocide, where other acts are still being questioned. Isis is thought by many as a threat of genocide as other’s think it is just an act of terror. As Isis is attacking certain groups and killing many, others believe they are completing an act of terror to help get their point across. Genocide states that if they are killing only one group of people then it would be similar to a genocide, the situation of Isis seems to differ from the means of killing. Some can say that they are just committing terror as they accomplish the many dangerous attacks and cause chaos in the world. Isis was the inspiration for the San Bernardino, California shooting, where about fourteen people were killed. Although that day was a terrible day, it can’t be classified as genocide. It wasn’t a mass killing of a certain race or religion. Dave Bowdich from the FBI stated, “As of today, based on the information and the facts as we know them, we are now investigating these horrific acts as an act of terrorism” (De Moraes). Isis is doing a lot to show the world what they are capable of doing to get what they want.
