Ishmael is so young, only twelve years old, and has already faced problems I may never even have to deal with within my lifetime. In chapter eight, Ishmael was faced with hunger, dehydration, lack of shelter, and was chased by multiple animals. This can be really hard to deal with and accept. When faced with adversity you must stay on the positive side. Looking on the bright side can motivate someone to get through their problems. In chapter eight, Ishmael was thinking about a saying his dad always used to say. This saying motivated Ishmael to keep going and stay alive.
