Introduction Ishmael is 36-year-old African adult, born in Mattru Jong, Sierra Leone. Ishmael was referred to, have a physiological evaluation to determine his mental, and physical well-being. Furthermore, throughout the time Ishmael lived in Sierra Leone he has been imposed with many detrimental effects on his well-being. The prime reason for Ishmael’s condition is a crisis of his hometown, where he and his biological parents lived. On March 1991, the rebel group RUF invaded Ishmael’s village, obligating Ishmael’s family to abandon the village without him, seeking refuge from other villages nearby. Consequently, throughout the year serving in the army as a child soldier, Ishmael has sustained numerous psychological damage and is in dire need of therapy. Due to Ishmael’s conditions, he has been having restless nights from reoccurring nightmares also, specific words and images have triggered a sense of emotion for Ishmael. Furthermore, three analyses will be accomplished, including a dream analysis, word association, and a Rorschach Test.

Furthermore, for this test, there will be a series of inkblots that the patient must identify what he is seeing. The observation is then recorded and analyzed for an ending result. The first several ink blots, Ishmael could not identify any images, but one of the inkblots were striking to him. One resembled the AK-47 he used when he was a soldier for the Sierra Leone Army. The reason for this is because he said in the army they would “hug” their guns “as if they were the only thing that gave us strength” (Beah 117). The imagery of the gun gave insight to the idea that when Ishmael was in the army, he would rely on his gun, that is why he killed everyone he saw. In addition, another ink blot was given to Ishmael, the image reminded him of his rap cassette tape. The patient said that the tape has helped him throughout his journey, it gave him a sense of hope and evoked the sense of childhood. When Ishmael and his friends were attempting to escape the RUFs, the were apprehended by a village they were near. Furthermore, the chief decided to kill them but once he saw the cassette, the chief exclaimed that “these boys are no mercenaries” (Beah 66). Seemingly, the cassette was a sign of childhood, and humanity, it was a prime reason for Ishmael being alive, which is why it is so important to him.
