Ischemic Stroke Essay

Introduction In this paper the illness stroke, specifically ischemic stroke (IS), will be discussed. The majority of strokes are ischemic; they are one of the prominent causes of death worldwide making it a major global health problem. The number of people who have suffer from stroke every year, or who have suffered, or have died from their stroke, are significantly increasing (Feigin et al., 2015). Ischemic stroke has been increasingly effecting people globally. Feigin and collegues (2015), demonstrated that in 2013 alone, there were almost 25.7 million stroke survivors, of whom, 71% with IS, and 6.5 million deaths from stroke, of whom 51% died from IS. Overall, global stroke problems and fatalities continue to increase globally. Even though there is not a single clear source and explanation of ischemic strokes, this paper will shed some light on the multiple different causes that could lead to an ischemic stroke. This illness can occur through other illnesses such as hypertension (high blood pressure). Hypertension is the single most important modifiable risk factor for stroke in adults (Kupferman, Zafeiriou, Lande, Kirkham, & Pavlakis, 2017). Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke by damaging and weakening your brain's blood vessels, causing them to narrow, rupture or leak (Kupferman et al., 2017). Moreover, the illness dyslipidemia can be a risk factor for ischemic stroke where elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) levels appear to increase the risk of ischemic stroke (Tziomalos et al., 2016).
