After reflecting on the care God gave to Samuel, Elijah, and Elisha, I believe that God’s care for these individuals started at the very beginning of their lives being known. In some cases like Samuel’s, his mother Hannah desired to have a child and the Lord provided such blessing. 1 Samuel 1:27 says, ”I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him.” (New International Version) In gratefulness of God’s blessing Hannah returned Samuel back to God, in reason of her promise to our Father that she would raise Samuel to be a man of the Lord.…

Amos was one of the twelve minor prophets. God sent a outsider to Israel to condemn and warn them that their actions towards the poor would not go unseen and that God was going to punish them for their actions. Amos name literally means “burden”. God had placed a burned-on Amos’ heart that lead him Israel to tell the people Gods plans. “Amos’ purpose was to penetrate the veneer of self-satisfied complacency to the rotten core of the leaders or Israel” (Laymon 465)…

Sawyer claims that the woman imagery is not about a city, but just about a suffering woman like the servant of Lord. However, their interpretations fail to recognize the function of imagery (or metaphor) within the Book of Isaiah. The ostensibly different metaphors interact together coherently to highlight the multiple aspects of the restoration of Zion (W. A. M. Beuken, “Isaiah LIV: The Multiple Identity of the Person Addressed,” OTS 19 [1974]: 29-70). Cf. J. F. Sawyer, “Daughter of Zion and Servant of the Lord in Isaiah: A Comparison,” JSOT 44 (1989): 89-107; M. E. Biddle, “The Figure of Lady Jerusalem: Identification, Deification and Personification of Cities in the ANE,” in The Biblical Canon in Comparative Perspective: Scripture in Context IV (ed.…

When Jesus was on the cross, struggling for breath, blood pouring out of his wounds, He cries out, “It is finished!”, and then lets out his last breath. This act was not only an act of love by God and Christ, but an act of trust. Jesus trusted God, even though he did not want death to be the way that mankind was redeemed. As Christians, we are constantly called to trust God in all things, from everyday small matters to large decisions or problems. Ideas of this trust can be found throughout the entirety of the Bible, but is mentioned frequently in Psalms, Isaiah and Romans.…

According to Harris’ Exploring the Bible, “...the Book of Isaiah represents and incorporates the three principal themes or concerns of Israel’s prophets: warnings of divine judgement, promises of forgiveness and reconciliation, and responsibilities of restoration” (163). However, what sets the book of Isaiah apart from the other prophet books is that it is actually compiled of three different prophets. These three prophets correspond with different periods of Judean history which take place before, during, and after the exile. While most readers simply interpret Isaiah for the words on the pages of the Bible, the historical framework of prophecies in Isaiah should be studied when reading these oracles because the background becomes critical…

It explains Jesus’s role on Earth. He is announcing the coming of the Kingdom of God. Thus Bartholomew and Goheen go on to say, “Thus with the background of Isaiah Jesus proclaims to the Jews the fulfillment of the good news of the prophet Isaiah. At the same time with the language of the imperial cult he announces to the Roman world that the good news for the world began not with Caesar Augustus but with Jesus the Jewish Messiah, the true Son of God (144).” By this Jesus then shows not just the Jewish faith, but also the world that the Kingdom of God was on Earth.…

Another prophecy made was in (Jeremiah 25:11-12) where he predicted Babylon would rule over Judah for 70 years when then “This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste” but in a later prediction Jeremiah said the Jews will survive Babylon rule and return home (Jeremiah 32:36-37).
