I find this interesting that it appears Hezekiah handpicked these individuals and suspect it was to insure the Prophet understood the gravity of the situation. They were also dressed in sackcloth which was worn symbolically of grieving. Isaiah would have immediately recognized this.

Hezekiah’s message is a plea for help from the Lord. "This is what Hezekiah says: Today is a day filled with misery, punishment, and disgrace… The LORD your God may have heard the words of the field commander. His master, the king of Assyria, sent him to defy the living God.”(GWT) It is interesting to see that Sennacherib’s intentions to turn Hezekiah and his kingdom from God had just the opposite effect. Mathew Henry in his commentary of this chapter states “Rabshakeh intended to frighten Hezekiah from the Lord, but it proves that he frightens him to the Lord. The wind, instead of forcing the traveler’s coat from him, makes him wrap it the closer about him.”[2] As believers in Christ Jesus each of us when faced with any sort of threat should be as quick to turn to the Lord for deliverance.

B. SENNACHERIB WILL RETURN AND PERISH

In verses 6 and 7 we see that Isaiah does indeed accept the request of Hezekiah and tells the messengers to tell their King not to be afraid over what they have heard from this field commander and that God is going to send
