Isabella, daughter of Isabella of Portugal and John II of Castile was born on the 22nd of April, 1451. Sadly, her father died when she was three, leaving her half-brother, Henry IV as king (Historynet, 2016). At this time, Isabella was second in line for the throne, after her brother, Alfonso. Alfonso, however, was tricked into believing that he was the true heir to the throne, not Henry. This caused the half-brothers to clash at the second battle of Olmedo in 1467. “The feudal system was a way of organising people” (BBC, 2016). They were split into four categories; Monarchs, Tenants in Chief, sub-tenants and peasants. Monarchs were kings and queens. They were powerful and had lots of money. Their choice in clothing clearly reflected this (Figure 2) as they wore fancy, expensive clothing. A female’s outfit would often consist of a fancy, tight fitting dress, a bonnet and jewelled necklaces. Men would wear tight fitting vests, fabric hats decorated by golden chains and artificial shoulder pads. Both men’s and women’s outfits were made from expensive materials, and all clothing was made for them by lesser classes in the feudal system. The tenants in chief class consisted of Counts, Dukes and Barons. They were rich and they often used peasants as servants. They wore fancy clothes, very similar to kings and queens, but with less jewels and garments. The sub-tenants class was made up of Knights, Squires and Pages. Knights often wore armour, which covered the whole body. Squires wore long, baggy tunics, and knee high boots, and they often wore hats with a feather.
