Isabella d’Este was a woman who held a lot of power during a time in which women did not have power. She was one of the few women who were able to be a ruler of land. Isabella’s family played a major part in this, but in the end it was her who led the people in which she governed. Mrs. d’Este was a woman who had multiple sides. On one side she was a patron of the arts, someone who employed many artist such as Leonardo da Vinci and the sculptor Cristoforo Romano (marchioness of Mantua Pg.2) . Isabella also set up school specifically for girls, so that they would be able to expand their education just as she did. Isabella was a leader who gave opportunities to girls that other countries did not have. She also did things that looking back on were not as great as being a patron of the arts or setting up schools for girls. Isabella and her husband Fernando were the victors of the Granada war. This war pushed all of the Jewish and moors out of their land. The two wanted their land that they controlled to follow under the Roman Catholic …show more content…
Elisabetta acted as a guide to Isabella in her transition to becoming comfortable with her new surroundings. This led to Isabella exploring the city. She would walk around the city with Elisabetta and other friends and family. Elisbetta introduced her the churches such as the Gothic Duomo and the St. Andrea (first lady pg.16) Isabella then walked all throughout the city, down the dirt roads to seeing the industry that was going on throughout Mantua. She would meet the wool and silk dealers. The townspeople saw the interest that she had in seeing the city and taking everything in. The townspeople were also more than happy to meet her. This was a beginning of the following of people. Citizens could get on her side because people felt that they knew her.
