Isabel Peron was born on February 4, 1931, in La Rioja, Argentina. Isabel’s real name was Maria Estela Martinez Cartas. Isabel changed her name after her confirmation in the Catholic Church. Isabel was born in the low to middle class. Her father was a banker and he died when Isabel was a young girl causing her family to have financial issues. Isabel learned had training in French, the piano and dance. However, after the fifth grade Isabel dropped out of school and became a dancer. That’s when she really took on the name Isabel as her professional name. She danced in the night clubs and theaters in Buenos Aires. In 1956, Isabel was on tour dancing and met her future husband Juan Peron in Panama while he was in exile. In 1961, Juan and Isabel married. Her goal was to unify the Peronist movement and gain support for her husband. “Peron was able to hand-picked the next president, Hector Campora in which he resigned so that Peron could become president (Cod, Isabel Martinez De Peron life and biography, 2010).” In 1973, Juan Peron was able to return from exile and run for the presidency again. He named Isabel as his vice president. After their first year in office Peron had several heart attacks and ended up dying in 1974 making Isabel the first woman in the world to become president of a country. Isabel’s main economic policy was the creation of the “pro-labor employment contract law (Isabel Martínez de Perón Biography).” Isabel took advice from a corrupt Minister of social welfare, Jose Lopez Rega. The country became unstable because the fall of the dollar, the guerrilla attacks, and people were upset that so many people were vanishing without a trace. The military placed Isabel under house arrest for five years and was exiled and she returned to Spain. (Isabel Martínez de Perón
