Then he turned 26.” -Neil deGrasse Tyson. Who is this magnificent man Tyson is speaking of? The answer, is Newton. Due to his obstacles as well as to his brilliant career, Sir Isaac Newton is by far the most intriguing man to have ever lived. Newton lived an intriguing life, filled with many challenges and obstacles to overcome. According to biography.com, Newton was born premature, making him “tiny and weak”, leading doctors to doubt his chances for survival. Biography.com states that Newton started his life as a simple farmer, but failed at the job, finding it tedious and repetitive; instead, he went on and studied many fields of science and mathematics, making discoveries in both subjects. Newton is well known for his contribution in the discovery of calculus (uiowa.com) and for determining that white light is composed of all the colors of the spectrum (thefamouspeople.com) , but he became a worldwide phenomenon after publishing Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), also known as Principia, which includes his famous three laws of motion (biography.com). Using his three laws of Motion, Newton was able to prove how gravity holds the planets in orbit, as well as how the moon causes the tides; due to that, Principia is now considered the most influential book in all of physics, as reported by biography.com.
