When George and other citizens are matched up with their education area on “Education Day,” they aren’t given a survey, a questionnaire, or anything of that nature. George and the other citizens are required to have a brain scan to detect patterns in their brain waves. This is then compared to the brain waves of learning about different things and decides what a person will learn about and what that person will do for the rest of their life. This may seem like the society leaders are doing a huge favor for the citizens by having them learn what will be the easiest for them to learn, but that is not the sole purpose of this method of education. When the society scans a brain and assigns the person to the certain area of education, it is basically guaranteeing that the person will excel at their job and will be able to provide for the society and keep it going. This rarely benefits any of the citizens because most all the time the citizens are assigned to something other than what they want. This is why George cannot find who he is, because he is not assigned any job, and therefore cannot find anything he enjoys. George is simply out of options and he cannot do anything to change
