You must refine the general question/topic down into a specific question for you to research and answer.
Task 2 – Sources of information
Processing information: Selecting biological ideas relevant to the issue from a range of sources and organising the ideas for reporting. A range needs to involve at least three sources and the sources can be the same type e.g. all from the Internet.
Your sources should be recorded and processed in your research document. However, you need to provide a reference list at the end of this document for all the sources you have used in your report.
Task 3 – Reporting Should somatic (adult) stem cells research be conducted in New Zealand.
Biological ideas - Describing and explaining the biological ideas related to the question or purpose by making multiple links between relevant biological ideas.
Scientists and doctors are constantly researching news ways to make modern medicine more personalized for every individual. One way they are is doing this is by using Stem Cells. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which means that these cells do not have a specific job or function. Stem cells also don’t have a specific structure. This means that stem cells can turn into any type of cell as the stem cells is not yet a specific cell. There are many different types of stem cells such as; Induced Pluripotent stem cells, Embryonic stem cells, Cord blood stem cells and Somatic (adult) stem cells. Somatic stem cells are differentiated cells found among in the tissues or an organ. How somatic stem cells work is by the stem cell living in an organism in the body. The main reason why stem cells are in the organism is to maintain and repair the tissue in which where they are found. In New Zealand stem cells research is to being used to educate doctors and scientist how there is a different way to make medicine more personalized and how New Zealand doctors can use stem cell research to treat New Zealanders with medical illnesses and diseases. There are many different opinions about if somatic stem cell research should be conducted in New Zealand. Stem cell research that has been conducted in New Zealand has been used as a treatment in New Zealand. The experimental stem cell treatment was used for joint and tendon regeneration. An example of this is when Ronald Bell, 86 had the treatment done on his left knee. Prior to the treatment Bell was finding it difficult to walk and in constant pain. Surgeons had told him he was not allowed to receive surgery because of his general health. The stem cell treatment which had been research in New Zealand was treated on Bell, and three day later all the pain from his leg had gone and he was able to walk again. This procedure was using somatic stem cells which doctors had extracted from 30-60ml from the patient was extracted 170,000 stem cells. This example used used to promote why we should use somatic stem cell research in New Zealand. This is one of the many possible cases that could happen if somatic stem cells research was used in New Zealand. The biological idea of somatic stem cell research being conducted in New Zealand is so New Zealand scientist and doctors are able to understand how methods of stem cells treatments can be used for illnesses …show more content…
The reasons why I think this is because there are many helpful way somatic stem cells research can be used as procedures in the future. How we can do this by is introducing new somatic stem cell researching clinic. Opening research clinics will enable New Zealand scientist to discover more about somatic stem cells. After this somatic stem cells research clinics have been set up, treatment should be introduced to main center hospital as another treatment option. These are two actions that can happen in the future. I think this can happen in the future because New Zealand is a capable country that benefit from stem cell research then treatments options in New Zealand. As New Zealand is a well developed country this recommendation can happen in the next 3-6 years with motivation from New Zealand scientist and
