They are shown off as objects because they are required to show off their bodies. These judges are criting every aspect of a girl from their construction of their head to their hands. There are more things to girl other than her length of her legs or what she wears on stage. Accrediting the Beauty Pageant Judging Criteria and Scoring Systems, contestants are judged by their “height, body proportion, skin and complexion, and beauty of face;” in addition to, “measurement and swimwear” (2014). Knowing these are the categories each girl has to perfect, shows how these girls should not be participating in these events. They should not let other people tell them they do not have the right hand form or their body is unproportioned because everyone is unique and no one is going to be perfect. The prizes. Most contests offer a “$100 to $200 dollars in cash for the winner in certain categories…. Some more well known pageants offer scholarships, automobiles, clothes, shoes, and gift certificates” says American USA Beauty Pageant. This means not all girls are losing when the sign up. Throughout the contest, many are are receiving prizes because they are the best in one category which helps pay for some of the costs to participate. It also feels good being able to bring something back home. Although, is it really worth putting them through all that stress and at a risk of anorexia? I disagree with American USA Beauty Pageant’s views because there are more things that come along with participating in beauty pageants than the prizes. As I mentioned before, many or not all of these pageant are putting themselves at risk of anorexia which in fact, is a deadly illness. All the money and prizes can not to fix this
