Why Watches Are Not Important To Life

To most people, to need something is to feel the obligation to own something. A man will be walking through a mall and see an expensive watch as he wears his old, worn one and feels the need buy it. Normally he would resist this feeling and keep walking; except on this day he has decided the need to great and he must have it. Of course, he did not need that watch, nor did he need any watch at all. To need something technically means to be obligated to own or do something because it is essential to life. Watches are not essential to life. Because of this misconception people will argue that the majority of people are wrong. Whether this is true or not, I must agree with most people. The original definition has become irrelevant in today’s society, and the word has adapted. It can be used like the word want but only more appropriate in other situations.
When a boy sees a video game, he needs it. When a girl sees starbucks, she needs it. They all need it. They feel the obligation, whether from peers or themselves, to buy and take ownership of said object. Some needs can be justified, like the need to buy a safe and protect their belongings. Some needs are almost unreasonable, like the need to buy the IPhone 6S for $200 more. Yet they all need those things. In reality, humans only need water, food, shelter, and people in that order. These factors and essentials in life are what people need. The reason this definition is still argued to be remembered is due to it’s the foundation of the word. If it was ignored the word would lose its meaning and seriousness that comes with it resulting in it becoming the word want. To most people it means they must have something, not just want something.
