Overcoming these challenges tests the depth of one 's love and strengthens the bond that two people share. These challenges can come from a forbidden romance, financial hardship, health issues, the economy, jealousy, or any number of sources. Shakespeare alludes to these, challenges in his play, A Midsummer Night 's Dream. Hermia and Lysander, two of the main characters, are forbidden from marrying and must run away into the forest to be together. In the midst of this obstacle, Lysander admits, “The course of true love never did run smooth” (MND. 1.1.136).
