One International Non Governmental Organization that I always endeavor to write about and advocate for is the Walk Free Foundation. I have a personal interest for this organization and over the past two years, worked with their Local Representatives as a volunteer. The main mission of the Walk free Foundation is to end modern slavery.

Article 3-21 of the Universal Declaration list, enshrines that all people are entitled to civil and political rights and the rights that are articulated in these sections covers the right to life, liberty and security and freedom from slavery and torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment only to mention but a few.

Contemporary slavery, also known as modern slavery, refers to the institutions of slavery that continue to exist in the present day. Estimates of the number of slaves today range from around 21 million -29 million to 46 million.

Modern slavery has become a multibillion-dollar industry with estimates of up to $35 billion generated annually. The United Nations estimates that roughly 27 to 30 million individuals are currently caught in the slave trade industry.

The work of Walk Free Foundation cut across forced child labor, Unlawful recruitment and use of child soldiers, domestic servitude, forced labor, bonded labor or Debt bondage, sex trafficking and child se trafficking.
